Advancing the Status of Women Worldwide

The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey puts forth a large amount of effort each year raising funds to provide thousands of dollars in support to worthy organizations in the community, and to contribute to the International good. Many thanks to our members and friends who continue to support our fundraising efforts. Since the Club's inception in 1980, more than $200,000.00 has been donated to local agencies, in scholarships to local winners and to Zonta International in support of global initiatives. Our local agencies include: Shalom House Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties New Hope Ministries Carlisle YWCA and the Tech Girlz and Girlz Camp programs Greater Harrisburg YWCA The Maternal Assistance Program at Holy Spirit Hospital Bethesda Mission Promise Place Capital Region Dauphin County Witness/Victims Assistance Program Family Support of Central PA Each year, we provide funding for two academic scholarships for local women: $1,000 Young Women in Public Affairs Award $1,000 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey contributes over $3000 annually to Zonta International for efforts that support our global mission. The Club membership selects fund raising projects for each year. Since Zonta International was founded in 1919, Zontians have been passionate about empowering women in developing countries through international service. In the more than 90 years since its first international service project was funded, Zonta International has contributed nearly US$15.5 million to projects benefiting women in 37 countries.  Our current international projects include: Eliminating Obstetric Fistula in Liberia and Let Us Learn Madagascar: An Integrated Program for Adolescent Girls. We also have two projects to eliminate violence against women: Respecting the Rights and Responding to the Needs of Adolescent Girls in Niger, and The Future We Want: Creating Sustainable Foundations for Addressing Human Trafficking and Unsafe Migration of Women and Girls in Nepal.
